Candle Care
At Make a Wish Candle Company we want you to enjoy your candle and infuse your environment with aromatic bliss.
We meticulously hand craft each and every candle with love and positive intention and do everything to ensure your candle is safe to use, however safety and care of the candle rests in your hands. For you to enjoy the best experience we kindly ask that you observe and follow these guidance directions:
Safety:
- Never burn a candle near furniture, fabric, bedding, carpets, curtains, paper or other flammable materials.
- Ensure your burning candle is placed on a level, fire resistant surface.
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Ensure lit candles are kept well out of reach of children or mischievous pets.
- Never light a candle if the glassware is chipped or cracked.
- Keep candle melt pool free from any debris including matches and wick trimmings.
- Keep away from draughts or draughty rooms.
- Do not handle or transport your candle once lit.
- Ensure your candle is completely extinguished before leaving the room.
- Do not burn your candle all the to the base, we recommend to stop burning when the candle has approximately 1cm of wax remaining.
- We don't anticipate your candle wax ever coming into contact with your skin, however if it does we recommend to wash the area with plenty of soap and water. If skin irritation or a rash occurs, seek medical advice or attention.
Getting the best from your candle
Burning Time:
Our candles have a burning time of approximately 35 hours. The burn time will vary depending on fragrance type, conditions of the room and your burning habits. We recommend to only burn your candle for a maximum of 4 hours at a time as the glassware can become hot.
When burning your candle the wax melts and creates a 'melt pool' in which the wax will reach the edge of the glass. If your candle is blown out before the melt pool has reached the edges of the glass, upon the next burn you may find the candle only melts from where you last burned it and so can create a tunnel effect, losing burn time with excess wax around the edge of the glass.
Trimming the wick
Before lighting your candle, ensure the wick is trimmed to approximately 5mm each time. An untrimmed wick has the potential to burn faster and create black soot marks on the sides of the glassware and give a shorter burning time.
If you don't trim your wick and soot does develop on the inside of the glassware, simply wipe away with a dampened cloth (once the candle has been extinguished and wax solidified).
Don't trim the wick too short as this may result in a small flame and a small melt pool resulting in a tunnelling effect and a shortened candle burn life.
Reusing your candle glassware
We know its sad when you have finished your candle but you can continue to enjoy the sentimental poem on the beautifully decorated container by reusing the glassware.
Firstly, use a blunt implement to gently dislodge excess wax from the glassware edges. Continue by filling the glassware with soap and hot water from your tap, allow the soapy water to break down residual wax and follow by gently cleaning the inside of the glassware with a damp cloth.
You can now use the glassware as the following:
- A make-up brush holder.
- A pen pot.
- A mini plant pot.
- A mini vase.
- A container for candle matches.
- A tea light holder.
If you no longer have use for the glass then it may be responsibly recycled by placing it with other glass items in the appropriate recycling bin.
